Cleveland A. Christophe has been selected as
the 2015 MLK Citizenship Award Winner

As an accomplished leader and entrepreneur of more than 40 years, this year's winner, Cleveland A. Christophe, has been a great example for our youth. In 2006, he was selected as a National BusinessMaker by HistoryMakers, a national program that records successful African American stories.

Since moving to Greenville in 2008, Mr. Christophe has wasted no time in creating a tremendous involvement with Minority Economic Recruitment in Greenville and the Upstate of South Carolina. Mr. Christophe has served on the Greenville Chamber of Commerce Advisory Board and Greenville Chamber of Commerce Diversity Committee, which led to the establishment of Greenville's Diversity and Inclusion initiative. That initiative has inspired many to pursue economic empowerment through the creation of their own businesses.

His efforts have extended beyond the Upstate Community to the Medical University of South Carolina through a sponsored program for minority high school students interested in entrepreneurship and technology. Mr. Christophe currently serves on the Medical University of South Carolina Foundation Board of Directors. He has served as a mentor to many local minority business individuals, entrepreneurs and students.

Presently, Mr. Christophe is a member of Thornblade Club Board of Governors and Builders First Source, Inc., Board of Directors and serves on Greenville’s Peace Center Board of Trustees. He received an MBA from the University of Michigan in 1967, a BS from Howard University in 1966, and has been a Chartered Financial Analyst since 1975. He is married to Cheryl S. Christophe and they have two children, Jean-Paul and Kimberly.
