This event seeks to recognize and encourage Greenville high school students to remain in school and pursue college. Greenville School District is a long-time partner with the program that has been conducted since 1977. High schools guidance offices nominate students who excel in one of the five following categories:
Each high school has their own selection method process but we encourage them to select students who talented in those above areas but may encouragement to pursue college. On the first Saturday in February, we award a Youth Awards certificates to all nominated winners a program from 11 AM. We also hold a College Fair (9 AM to 11 AM) were invite colleges to send representation to the event and we hold two seminars on "Getting the most out Financial Aid" and "Experiences from their first year in College" with current and former students from Furman, USC-Upstate and Clemson University.

The college fair was re-named from the Upstate College Fair to Rudolph G. Gordon College Fair in 2012 in honor of Dr. Rudolph G. Gordon, former superintendent of Greenville School District and great support of the program and college fair.
Dr. Rudolph Giles Gordon, Sr., graduated from Benedict College in 1959 and began his 40-year career as a mathematics teacher at Bryson High School in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. In 1996, Dr. Rudolph G. Gordon was selected as the district superintendent of The School District of Greenville County, the largest school district in South Carolina and 66th largest in the nation with approximately 66,000 students, becoming the district's seventh superintendent since consolidation in 1952. He retired in 2000, and was very active as a Life Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and a Member Delta Beta Boule of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity until his passing on February 23, 2012.
