The primary objective of this event is to commend and motivate high school students in Greenville to stay committed to their education and pursue higher learning. The Greenville County School District has been a steadfast partner in this program since its inception in 1977. Students excelling in Academics, Art, Athletics, Leadership, Music, and STEM are nominated by their high schools' guidance offices.
While each high school has its unique selection process, the emphasis is on identifying talented students in the aforementioned categories who may benefit from encouragement to pursue higher education. Traditionally held on the first Saturday in February, the program concludes at 12 noon with the presentation of Youth Awards certificates to all nominated winners.
In addition to the Youth Awards, the event will feature the Dr. Rudolph G. Gordon College Fair from 10 AM to 12 noon. Colleges are invited to send representatives to engage with attendees. Two seminars, "Getting the Most out of Financial Aid" and "Experiences from the First Year in College," will be conducted, featuring current and former students from Furman, USC-Upstate, and Clemson University. Dr. Rudolph G. Gordon, the former Greenville School District Superintendent, has lent his name to the College Fair since its renaming in 2012.
