AGF Announces its 2020 LHC Scholarship Winner

Congratulations to Mr. Tyler Andrew Alexander selected as our 2020 LHC Scholarship Winner

Greenville, South Carolina - Alpha Phi Alpha Greenville Foundation (AGF) is proud to announce our 2020 Luke H. Chatman Scholarship winner, Mr. Tyler Andrew Alexander. Tyler is currently a student at Southside High School, graduating this spring.

Our AGF Scholarship committee met virtually on April 17th to make the selection. Tyler will receive $750.00 per year for four years for attending a college of his choice by Spring 2021.

"We are very pleased to support Tyler with his college career" said Jimmy Durante, Scholarship Chair and AGF Treasurer. "[Tyler] is an outstanding student and has plans to pursue an Engineering degree at North Carolina A&T University". AGF currently supports five students attending college at the University of South Carolina and Mercer University. To date, the foundation has provided more than 30 students with over $83,000 in scholarship funding.

AGF looks forward to a lifelong relationship with Tyler and is committed to helping him and others within the community. Brother Luke Haze Chatman was born on August 18, 1921. He was initiated into Gamma Gamma Lambda of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated on May 18, 1949. As a dedicated member of Gamma Gamma Lambda Chapter, he held many chapter officers including Treasure, Secretary and President. In 1955 he became the first District Director of South Carolina and remain in that capacity until 1967. In 1968 he was elected Southern Regional Vice President and held that position until 1972. Brother Chatman strongly believed that education would open all doors to success. He worked tirelessly to improve the education system in Greenville County for more than 30 years.

Established in 2012 as a public 501(c)3 non-profit, tax-exempted organization, Alpha Phi Alpha Greenville Foundation's mission is to aid the poor and disadvantage and help them toward a life of self-sufficiency. Our programs address teenage pregnancy prevention, college preparation & awareness, educational scholarships, youth leadership development and other similar programs. We serve the Upstate area of South Carolina, and are affiliated with the Gamma Gamma Lambda Chapter of ΑΦΑ in Greenville, South Carolina.
