Greenville, South Carolina: Alpha Phi Alpha Greenville Foundation (AGF) and Gamma Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity will sponsor its 42nd Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Celebration on Saturday, January 9, 2021, via Eventbrite and hosting on Zoom. The Scholarship Celebration is the oldest celebration of MLK Day in Greenville, SC, with the first event held in 1977. It has been co-sponsored by Gamma Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and Furman University since 2008.

Due to the COVID19 Crisis, we have decided to change our Luncheon to a virtual celebration with Live Entertainment. The MLK Scholarship Celebration seeks to raise funds for the Foundation's efforts to support local youth in the Upstate of South Carolina. We are also proud to continue to host the first and oldest Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Event in the Upstate of South Carolina and our Martin Luther King Jr. Citizenship Award Winner selection.

Proceeds from the Scholarship Gala support the Luke H. Chatman Scholarship for local high students and fund other community efforts such as the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Youth Program, Dr. Rudolph Gordon College Fair, and Joseph Vaughn Oratorical Competition. See Alpha Phi Alpha Greenville Foundation website for more information, www.alphagreenville.org.

This year, Mr. James E. Bobo, Owner of the Community Informer News LLC, has been selected as the 2021 Martin Luther King, Jr. Citizenship Award winner, which be presented at the Celebration. In addition to presenting the winner of this year's award, the Celebration features a Local Pastor's message in the Greenville Area. We are proud to have Reverend Sean Dogan of Long Branch Missionary Baptist Church of Greenville, SC giving a hopeful message about Dr. King’s Legacy and last year's turbulent events.
